Since Sí a la Vida was started in 1994, many generous donors have provided the support necessary for the project to rescue kids from the street and turn their lives around. The operating costs for food, clothing, medical care, transportation, and staffing (educators, psychologists, social workers) as well as the land acquisition and construction costs have all been funded by international aid. The Nicaragua government has no resources for this effort and relies on non-governmental organizations for much of its safety net.
Amigos de Sí a la Vida, the U.S.-based support group, is grateful to those who have supported the Nicaragua project so consistently and invite others to join our efforts and help us to help the street boys of Nicaragua. Your donations enable Sí a la Vida to provide a safe and supportive environment for these boys while the skilled staff help them change from being street kids to useful members of society. Staff employ a number of techniques, all based upon providing the boys with understanding, respect and unconditional love, and giving them the knowledge and experience to take decision-making power over their own lives. The future of the program depends on a growing base of supporters. Costs are rising but donations still go a long way in Nicaragua. $100 buys 2 bicycles, $700 pays three monthly salaries, and $1200 buys uniforms and school supplies for a year. Both the U.S.-based support group and the Nicaragua project take seriously our collective responsibility to contributors, and to those counting on our help, to be wise stewards of funds entrusted to us. The annual Amigos tax filing with the Internal Revenue Service, available to the public from IRS, consistently shows a 3% overhead rate, meaning that 97 cents of every dollar donated goes to Nicaragua. And in Nicaragua the overhead rate is even less. In the U.S., all work is done by volunteers. Postal, banking, and printing are the only costs. In Nicaragua, accounting and bookkeeping are the primary operating costs considered overhead rather than direct service. How to make an online donation: Thank you very much!
